A diverse, highly talented artist with a five octave vocal range...
Dutch Robinson hit the music scene in the 60s as the lead singer for the Ohio Players. The Ohio Players would go on to become one of the most widely known R&B bands of the 70s before Dutch released his solo album, Nothing’s Got Me, for United Artists in 1977. Along with appearances on television shows like Soul Train and the Tonight Show, Dutch’s voice would become a staple for R&B and soul. His single, “Can’t Get Along Without You,” would become a mega hit with its classic vibe and sound.
Throughout his career, Dutch also worked with a wide range of artists like Aretha Franklin, B.B. King and Billy Joel, Darryl Hall, John Oates, Curtis Mayfield, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Tommy Motolla and more. The 80s would lead to work with Elbow Bones and The Rackateers, along with singing background vocals for artists like Melba Moore. This diversely talented singer with a five octave range would go on to do extensive theatre work with the Black Theatre Workshop in Montreal, the Famous players in Toronto and would land a lead role portraying Marvin Gaye for musical theatre in New York, Canada and London, England.
Dutch has recorded, I Belong to You, on Groove United. This digital release features a collection of standards and the silky, old-school R&B sound that Dutch Robinson fans have come to know and love.
